Covid-19 and the associated lockdowns are having a significant impact on our young people.
The Kids Helpline experienced 28% increase in demand for its service during the hard lockdown this time last year. The top five concerns raised by Victorian children and young people in July were:
mental health
emotional wellbeing
family relationship issues
suicide-related issues, and
friend/peer relationships.
We can assume much the same is being felt by young people right now.
There is also evidence coming out of Monash Health that there has also been an increase in school refusal throughout the pandemic.
Here at CSC our Wellbeing Team is also experiencing a significant increase in referrals and this has increased our wait times. We are prioritising students who are in crisis or at immediate risk of harm. We are thankful for your patience during this time.
