DIGITAL DESIGN AND FABRICATION
The introduction of new manufacturing technologies including 3D printing and laser cutting has changed the face of rapid prototyping and fabrication in the design, engineering and manufacturing industries.
This course introduces students to Computer Aided Design software and the world of digital fabrication using state of the art resources.
This subject provides an excellent foundation for the Stage 5 Design and Technology course available in Years 9 & 10.
COURSE OUTLINE:
Investigation of Computer Aided Design and Manufacturing
2 Dimensional vector based drawing using Corel Draw
3 Dimensional modelling using Fusion 360
Laser engraving/cutting products

ASSESSMENT:
Assessment Task 1 - Written report investigating emerging technologies with a focus on rapid prototyping and its impact on society
Assessment Task 2 - Design and make activity exploring use of 2D vector drawing and 3D modelling software supporting fabrication of components using Laser Cutter and 3D printer. Outcomes to include prototype and portfolio.

E TEXTILES
An electronic textile (E-textile) is a type of fabric that contains electronic elements. In general, the development of electronic textiles supports the idea of wearable computing, or electronic devices worked into garment designs.
During this course students will explore E-textiles technologies, such as the Arduino Lilypad, and use them to develop clothing or textiles products that feature wearable technology. Students will also experience a wide range of textiles skills including hand based sewing, use of sewing machines, surface detailing and pattern making.
This subject provides an excellent foundation for the Stage 5 Fashion Design course available in Years 9 & 10.

Assessment Task 1 - Written report investigating emerging technologies with a focus on the use of electronics integrated in garments and smart materials.

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE
The threats to our planet are increasing and designers need to be agents of change to help sustain our environment and society. This course provides students with an introduction to the world of sustainable design and architectural practices. It aims to provide students with the skills and understanding to design in a more sustainable way to lessen our impact on our planet and its precious resources.
Students will be introduced to sustainable concepts including Reduce, Recycling, and Reuse and will gain an understanding of ecologically sound materials and manufacturing processes.

SUSTAINABLE FOOD PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
A sustainable food system is a collaborative network that integrates several components in order to enhance a community's environmental, economic and social well-being. This course provides students with an introduction to the world of sustainable agriculture and food product development and manufacturing practices. It aims to provide students with the skills and understanding to design in a more sustainable way to lessen our impact on our planet and its precious resources.
Students will be introduced to the concepts of sustainability in agriculture and food product development and manufacturing. They will explore the process of creating products through economically-sound processes that minimise the negative impacts, while also conserving energy and natural resources.
This subject provides an excellent foundation for the Stage 5 Food Technology available in Years 9 & 10.

Investigation of emerging technologies in agriculture and food production.
Introduction to the stages of food product development and the food industry

METAL FABIRCATION AND MANUFACTURING
This course aims to offer an introduction to metal fabrication. Here the students work with hand-tools and limited machines in the construction of individual projects.
This subject provides an excellent foundation for the Stage 5 INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY – METAL PRODUCTS (100 hours) course available in Years 9 & 10.
COURSE OUTLINE:
Working primarily with steel and includes experiences in marking out, shaping, machining, heat processes, joining, assembling and designing.
Using hand tools and limited machines in the production of a range of products. Two graded projects are made with students encouraged to modify a design for their own special requirements.
Assessment will be a continuous process and based on the practical classroom projects, portfolios and tests.
ASSESSMENT:
Sheet metal based project with supporting portfolio
Metal art project - independently designed and constructed
Safety glasses will be provided to students. Materials used by the student are not recyclable and the finished article becomes the property of the student and therefore the cost of this material must be met by the student/parents.
