These twin concerts of Semester 1 represent the major performing opportunities here at NHSPA for the Music Co-Curricular Program in Semester 1, and reflect the work the students and directors have contributed across the past four months. We are proud of our students' musical efforts, and the Program’s ability to stage two performances of such high calibre, demonstrating diverse stylistic range and overall musicality.
The Music Co-Curricular Program is one of the largest in the school, with more than a quarter of all students involved and regularly participating in musical ensembles.

A stunning achievement !
On Tuesday 4 June, St George's Hall was alive with the sounds of international Greek singer Dimitris Basis, who collaborated with the Newtown High School of the Performing Arts (NHSPA) Orchestra and Senior Choir, to produce a stunning and emotional evening, "Music From The Heart." It was a monumental event that showcased the talents of our students supported by the Music Faculty. Special thanks to our Music Director Emlyn Lewis-Jones for his vision and passion to bring this concert to life. Several months, and then days of intensive rehearsals culminated in a spectacular performance.
Highlights include Farrah Delrue enchanting the audience with a duet "Omorfi Poli" in French alongside Dimitris Basis. Jay Stocker, a featured soloist, captivated the audience with a soaring soprano line during "Spasmeno Karavi" with Senior Choir.
The Zangari Guitar ensemble, led by Giuseppe Zangari, enhanced their classical skills through collaboration with traditional Greek guitar and bouzouki playing of professional musicians - George Doukas and Themelis Samarkos.
The Intermediate and Senior Choirs learnt multiple numbers in Greek, and the Orchestra put in a mammoth effort playing the entire concert professionally.
Outstanding mention to Phaedra Carantinos, the evening's MC who represented both the school and the Greek community with a generous and professional spirit.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ula George, Christina Aygyri, Effie Milos, Emlyn Lewis-Jones, Ynping Mak, Amber Johnson, Mitch Rudman, Ben Turner, Zoe Van Munster, alumni Dash Cole, the Tech Company and all staff who helped backstage whose efforts and contributions made this event a resounding success. The concert was sold out, and we have received rave reviews from attendees.
This unforgettable experience enriched our students’ musical journey and strengthened the bond between our school and the broader community. We look forward to more exceptional performances in the future.
