ALWAYS log in to a school computer running windows using username@detnsw
eg Fred.Smith65@detnsw
A laptop will usually refuse to let you on without the detnsw
A desktop might let you on without it eg Fred.Smith65 -- this will eventually cause problems (no printers, no U drive etc)
NOTE: sometimes @det will work eg Fred.Smith65@det. This will cause problems too (no local files, no printers, no U drive etc)
Press Ctrl-alt-delete and restart the computer . DON'T shut down - actually choose restart from the power options.
You may have to click ok in order to get the power button on the left below.
Left click on the power button to get the choice to restart on the right.
Unplug the network cable from the back of a desktop. Try connecting your laptop to that cable and logging on that way.
(If you don't want to unplug a computer, the librarian can provide you with a live cable .. take it there.
See point 1 above under loggin in issues
Sometimes it can take a while for these to appear. 15 minutes is not unheard of, especially after a software update.
Download this script and double-click on it. It will warn you and ask if you really want to do this. You do.
