In this activity, students are asked to write a pick-a-path story using a variety of different platforms. Utilising a range of platforms engages the audience and gives the user a varied experience.
Students should be proficient at writing a linear story prior to writing a pick-a-path adventure. Students should be explicitly taught the writing process and the features of a narrative.
After writing a linear story, they can use a platform such as Canva to bring their stories to life. In this example, images and narration were included to enhance the viewers experience.
Students should be encouraged to plan their pick-a-path story prior to writing. This will ensure that the writing process will be much more efficient.
Using a template like the one to the left is a good idea. The use of this template should be modelled and explicitly taught.
Once students have completed the planning process, they can then create an interactive version of their story in a platform such as Microsoft of Google Forms. This allows students to experiment with branching, which is a feature of the Digital Technologies strand of the Science and Technology syllabus.
After this, students can be extended further with an application such as CoSpaces. In this example, you can see that you can utilise branching in a similar way to Microsoft or Google Forms.
