Discuss with the executive about where they see the role going in the future.
Focus on strategic direction items moving forward that will continue to build the staff capacity in line with SIP goals.
Look at PL themes that complement current school needs and allocate time in PL calendar
Where have you stored all the training and concepts so that staff can access these in the future.
Onboarding process - how will the cloud structure be conveyed to new staff
Discuss with the Principal about allocating time with new staff regarding MLD’s Cloud, online student facing items.
How will this info be incorporated into the staff handbook
Re-do of survey - staff survey and ask staff to consider their journey honestly - and also their DMP.
PS: We learnt something new ourselves here - when you use a whiteboard through powerpoint live, it doesn't record on the screen! So when we refer to the whiteboard, its the one in the link above. It would be handy to have that open while watching the video.
We continue to use the whiteboard from last week and expand on looking forward to how you can best use the DCO in your school in a long term sense. Items included:
How accessible is the content and resources youve prepared and collated - eg. who has access if you move on from the school to administer this space?
Does the school have a Digital Team focused on teaching and learning rather than a hardware focused group?
Do you have ideas on how you can develop Communities of Practice with other DCOs in your area (not necessarily just those in your release)?
Are there any skills you would like to further develop within your DCO role?
At the start of the recording we also shared a "Tech Tip" around using the MS Excel app on phone/ipad/tablet devices to gather data from a typed hard copy table using the camera on your device. Very clever indeed!
The PL this week focused on something that's useful for almost every teacher: an easier way to write reports.
We shared some comment bank generators using Google Sheets (can also be adapted to MS Excel) in order to make the process of report writing a lot more efficient. By using a set of pre-approved comments generated by your faculty and inserted into the spreadsheet, you're able to just click a box and have that comment inserted into a cell. When all the comments are inserted, just copy the text in the cell and paste it into your report writing platform. Its as easy as that!
Here are two worked examples:
Many thanks to Sally Cassilles (Yanco HS) for sharing her Sentral focused comment bank (uses Sentral name, pronoun specifics): Report Writing Comment Maker (Yanco HS Maths)
DST Member Craig Merrick also produced a version: Report Writing Comment Maker v2.0
This week we discussed the use of the Inventor Robotics STEM.T4L Kit across all KLA areas.
In addition to the great resources on the STEM.T4L Learning Library, the HS/CS mentoring team have come up with a range of activities and lessons using the three elements of the kit - Micro:bit, Lego Spike and Makey Makey - across all KLA areas.
We discussed that coding doesn't have to be text based all the time (unless addressing an outcome in a specific subject) allowing student to build on skills learnt using block coding in earlier years and apply these to projects across different learning areas.
Discussed here are 22 different projects and lessons across the three items in the kit. The slide deck includes links to videos and images relating to the projects and coding. Stay tuned for a OneNote link to a full notebook that includes lesson plans for the projects!
Part Two of our dive into the use of STEM.T4L kits across KLA areas looked at the use of 3D Printers, CAD programs and Nearpod in teaching and learning.
In addition to the great resources on the STEM.T4L Learning Library, the HS/CS mentoring team have come up with a range of activities and lessons using the the concept of 3D printing, CAD assisted design and using Nearpod across all KLA areas.
One handy resource we did share was the link to a range of pre-designed models and resources from the Braille and Large Print Services Library. Its a great source of items not just for visually impaired students, but also to give students a hands on feeling of certain items in and around their world.

We discussed the philosophy of using 3D printing in the classroom, as well as giving some handy tips about the use of them in teaching and learning for a whole class. We unpacked a range of potential projects including relating 3D printing and design to text responses in English, compund shapes and tessellations in Maths, and the expression of data using a 3D designed and printed object in PDHPE.
Finally Tanya took us on a wonderful journey though the use of Nearpod. By borrowing the VR kit from the STEM.T4L library, yoou get access to the extended license which includes some great resources developed by the curriculum team of the DoE. Not only that, you can develop your own lessons to create great experiences for self paced learning for your students. Best of all - you don't need a VR headset to use Nearpod!
The session this week took a look at things to consider when planning future hardware upgrades within your school.
From getting advice from your local Digital Field Services Team through to making sure that the devices you are purchasing are suitable for the job you want them to do, we took a look across many aspects of hardware planning. Most importantly, we emphasised the need for it to be a decision made with a teaching and learning focus.
We also gave a demonstration of how ICT+ can be used to keep track of device age, warranty and usage within the school environment. Finally we explained why technology hardware purchases should be made through EdBuy.
Links that were shared included:
T4L Tech Tool Catalogue: A great place for all staff to identify what applications are available to us for free as DoE users for specific tasks within the teaching and learning setting: T4L Tech Tools Catalogue
This week's whiteboard which focused on providing responses to questions relating to key stakeholders in your school when it comes to technology purchases, use of tech across KLA's and types of devices within your school: Term 4 Week 8 Whiteboard
There are a range of other links embedded in the pdf copy of this weeks slide deck for EdConnect, EdBuy and ICT+.
To wrap up mentoring, we shared out Top 10 Tips for digital teaching and learning.
These tips came from loads of different platforms, fron .new weblinks for quick access to web based platforms, importing data via photo in Excel, generating a quiz in Microsoft forms by importing a pdf and even simple things like changing colours/icons of folders in File Explorer and Google Drive.
