In 2022, the PDHPE Faculty will be offering three strands of SLR
Students will learn about the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle and recognise the need to be responsible and informed decision-makers.
This course enables students to further develop their understanding of and competence in a range of sport and recreational pursuits. They are encouraged to establish a lifelong commitment to being physically active and to achieving movement potential.
The course provides the opportunity to specialise in areas of expertise or interest through optional modules such as:
§ Aquatics
§ Athletics
§ First Aid
§ Fitness
§ Specific Sports such as Netball and Volleyball
§ Gymnastics
§ Outdoor Recreation
§ Sports Administration
§ Coaching
§ Social Perspectives of Sport
§ Healthy Lifestyles
This course enables students to further develop their understanding of fitness as well as providing the opportunity to improve personal fitness and body image.
Through the course students will develop:
§ Explain the principles of skill development and training
§ Analyse the fitness requirements of specific activities
§ Describe the relationship between, anatomy, physiology and performance
§ Design programs that respond to performance needs
§ Measures and evaluates physical performance capacity
§ Plans strategies to achieve performance goals
A practical based course with a focus on the development of fundamental skills, strength and conditioning, game sense knowledge and strategies and tactics specifically focused around Basketball and Netball. The theory component of the course will focus on traditional Sport Lifestyle and Recreation syllabus topics such as Healthy Lifestyle, Fitness and Resistance Training, Games and Sports Applications and First Aid. The aim is to provide knowledge on a broad range of sport and physical activity topics to equip students for future health and career pathways while improving their physical health, fitness and skill focusing on the sports of Basketball and Netball.
