Assessment for inquiry learning

Assessment can be used for two purposes:

assessment of learning (summative) - to identify where a student is in relation to the intended learning. We typically use these assessments to report on student achievement.
assessment for learning (formative) - to inform feedback and strategies for the student's next steps in learning.

All assessment should be used formatively.

Helps students to articulate what's been done well in relation to the success criteria and what still needs to be done.

Students respond to questions at the end of a lesson. To help teachers quickly assess understanding of a concept.

The general capabilities learning continuum can be used to identify where students are and where they're going.
