Point scoring debate: split the class into teams and give them a simple topic to debate. They take it in turns to say sentences using the linking words and score higher for more difficult words or concepts (such as summarising or drawing conclusions.)
Dice game: Teacher provides the starting points for debates, e.g. "Mobile phones help communication." The students have to roll a dice and write a linking-word sentence according to the dice. E.g. Student rolls a 1 and writes "What is more, they are also entertaining." They get points depending on the difficulty of the word but only get the point if they have correctly punctuated it and spelled key-words correctly.
