FIRE SAFETY
Law PS operate termly fire drills to ensure that all staff, pupils and visitors are aware of the appropriate protocols in the event of a necessary evacuation. These drills are designed to keep everyone safe, and make sure that all children are familiar with the relevant actions in these ‘emergency situations’. Fire safety information is shared regularly with staff and pupils, while visitor badges provided at sign-in, offer a summary of fire safety procedures for those visiting the school.
LOCKDOWN/STAY INSIDE DRILLS
As part of our normal operating procedures we regularly review our health and safety procedures in line with keeping everyone safe and follow East Lothian policy and procedure. We will talk to children at appropriate times throughout the year about how to stay safe in the event of either taking part in ‘evacuation’ or ‘stay inside’ drills. A stay inside drill is exactly what it says, and all staff are briefed to support children to know what to do. This is a particularly helpful procedure if we need to ensure we are inside as a result of a risk from an air pollution event or any incident where staying in the classroom will keep everyone safe.
As with Fire Evacuation plans, the situations in which a school may need to use these are unlikely, but such events can and do happen. It is important that everyone within our schools know exactly what to do if these events do happen, so that all of our pupils and staff can be kept safe.
