What the Service Offers: Educational Psychologists (EPs) aim to improve the life chances of all children and young people. They use applied psychology and knowledge of child development to address inequalities, support vulnerability and enhance inclusion through the provision of consultation, assessment and intervention, training and development and research.
Age Range: From age 3 - school leaving age
How to Access: The EPS becomes involved at the additional level within the Child Planning Framework (CPF). When concerns about a child or young person have been assessed, supported and recorded through the CPF and this has not sufficiently addressed the concerns a Request for Assistance (RFA) to the EPS can be made. This is done via the EPS mailbox, see below for the address.
RFAs to the EPS should follow the process detailed below:
Use the current RFA form, available below.
Include the current CPF paperwork GIRFEC CPF documents* :
CPM Minutes and Action Plan - a minimum of 2 sets to provide evidence of a Plan-Do-Review Cycle
C/YP Wellbeing Assessment
Looked After Care Plan - where a child or young person is care experienced please ensure consent is obtained from the person with parental rights e.g. parent, local authority (where relevant the lead professional should be involved in the RFA process). This should contain information on the educational concerns and supports, as per the school’s CPF paperwork.
The CPF paperwork should be from the last 6 months.
The CPM Minutes and Action Plan should record the discussion around the RFA to the EPS, including information on what is hoped for from the Educational Psychologist.
