Kisakallio Sports Institute

Kisakallio Sports Institute is a non-profit foundation which offers a wide variety of sports, activities, educational possibilities and excellent facilities for professional and amateur sports enthusiasts.

Kisakallio Sports Institute was founded in 1949 to be a Gymnastics institute for women of all ages.

Today Kisakallio Sports Institute is one of the biggest training and education centers in Finland and Europe with 700 beds and almost 15000 sqm of sport facilities.

NEAR THE METROPOLITAN AREA

In peaceful surroundings, close to the nature Kisakallio Sports Institute is located only 45 minutes from both Helsinki Airport and Helsinki Harbour. Nearest town is Lohja which is in 10 minutes driving distance.

Kisakallio is surrounded by 250 hectares of wild wood, an area called “Karnaistenkorpi”, which is nationally and internationally environmentally unique. Karnaisten Korpi is owned by the City of Lohja and the nature trails going through the entire area are maintained by Kisakallio Sports Institute. Also the biggest lake in Southern Finland, Lake Lohja, is just front of you.

Area of Operation

Kisakallio Sports Institute is one of the eleven Sports Institutes in Finland. The main operation area is Southern Finland and most of the vocational students come from the capital city area.

TRAINING CENTER

Kisakallio Sports Institute offers top class training services in 6 different Olympic Sport with its partners; the Finnish Gymnastics Federation, the Finnish Basketball Association, Finnish Handball Association, The Finnish Volleyball Association and The Finnish Orienteering Federation.

In addition to these, Kisakallio also offers high quality facilities for Football, Floorball, Curling, IceHockey, Figure skating, Dancing and Taekwondo, just to mention a few.

BOARDING SCHOOL

Kisakallio Sports Institute offers a possibility to study in a boarding school environment for maximum 97 students / year. The students live in the student accommodation apartments in Koivupiha-house from Monday to Friday. The government offers free living and food for Finnish vocational students.

Kisakallio offers Vocational Education for over 220 students per year

Vocational Qualification in Sports Instruction, 180 cp

A sports assistant

  • safely instructs sports with different clients

  • utilises different types of exercise, sports, and operating environments in sports instruction

  • provides sports assistance and acts as a professional in the sports sector in different interactive situations

  • prepares exercise plans promoting health and physical functional capacity for clients

  • organises sports or competitive events.

The Vocational Qualification in Sports Instruction studies consists of

  • Compulsory study units (25 cp + 25 cp = 50 cp)

  • Common study units (35 cp)

  • Specialisation study units (30 cp + 20 cp = 50 cp)

  • Optional units (45 cp)

  • Sports Assistant studies last from 1,5-3 years.

Values of Vocational Education in Kisakallio

Know-how

Students must aqcuire good life-long learning skills to be able to cope in the constant changes of working life. Students are active actors, who want to learn and develop themselves and become skillfull professionals.

Community

Learning occurs in community and knowledge is constructed by sharing it and learning with other students. Teachers help students to learn and develop as professionals. Teachers also give support as younger students grow up.

Responsibility

Students are encouraged to take responsibility, be entrepreunial, develop constantly their own abilities and do self-evaluation. Students are responsible of their own learning.
