Quebec Education Program
The Quebec Education Program (QEP) is the entry point for all students. It is the program of study that guides the learning and progress of student learning throughout their time in preschool, elementary, and high school education. It is a competency-based program that divides education into:
Preschool: two-year program
Elementary: Six-year program, divided into 3 cycles
Secondary: Divided into two cycles with three distinct pathways
General Education
Applied General Education
Work-Oriented Training Path
This model takes into account the need for a long-term approach in developing competencies. It corresponds better to the students’ learning rate and permits more differentiated teaching practices. The QEP is a program meant for all students.
CASP I - A Competency-Based Approach to Social Participation (CASP-I) is for students aged 6-15, and has been designed primarily to meet the needs of students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities (MSID). The CASP-I Education Program targets the development of five competencies that ensable students to acquire the knowledge and skills required for greater social participation and to develop self-determined behaviours.
CHALLENGES - An Educational Program designed for young adults between the ages of 16 and 21, preparing them for community living and the job market are areas of top priority. This educational program has an approach that facilitates social integration through the development of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are essential for integration into today's society.
Work-Oriented Training Path (WOTP) - The WOTP is one of the three educational pathways offered in Secondary Cycle Two. Students in this program focus on their own academic, personal, and career goals, based upon their Individualized Education Plan. Our students often find that the smaller class size and personal focus offer them the learning environment and support they need to enjoy learning and succeed at their own pace. Work placements, which are a required part of the program, teach marketable skills and encourage independence and responsibility.
The WOTP consists of two distinct learning programs:
Pre-work Training - A three-year program with an alternative workload for students 15 years or older having completed elementary competencies. Each year during the program, students are spending an increased number of hours in a work environment, while also working on academics (English, French, Mathematics, Physical Education, and Autonomy and Social Participation).
Training for a Semiskilled Trade - A one-year program for students who are 15 years of age but have not been promoted to Secondary level 3. They will focus on meeting the level 2 academic requirements in English, French, and Mathematics. They choose a semiskilled trade and work at attaining certification.
The student who goes through the WOTP path can choose to go the vocational pathway or to go back to the general education pathway. For more information on the "bridge" between training pathways, click here.
Vocational Pathway - Vocational training is a learning process that enables an individual to acquire the knowledge and skills required to practice a skilled or semiskilled trade. In general, teaching is more focused on practice than on theory. Each program focuses on one industry or career, giving students specific skills they can apply in the workplace.
Vocational training programs lead to a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) OR an Attestation of Vocational Specialization (AVS) issued by the Ministère de l’Éducation du Québec, OR a Skills Training Certificate (STC) issued by a school service centre (SSC), an English-language school board or a special-status school board (SB).
Vocational Training at the ETSB:
2-4-U Pathway - The Concomitance Estrie (2-4-U) is an initiative grouping together the Estrie school boards. It is derived from a regional effort to support student graduation and net the needs of local businesses, focusing on the many advantages of the 2-4-U training with students and their parents.
Adult Education - Adult education is for students 16 years old + who wish to continue their education. There are many different programs that can be explored.
Sociovocational Integration Program- Sociovocational Integration Services are intended to provide adult learners with the means to develop their employability, to enter the labour market, and to remain employed. These services are also available to adult learners who wish to continue their studies.
Program of Study - The program of study offered under these services reflects a view of vocational development that encourages adult learners to take charge of their own learning so that they can develop the competencies they will need to meet the challenges associated with the new realities of the world of work. It may lead to a Training Certificate in Sociovocational Integration of Adults (TCSIA) or a Training Certificate for a Semiskilled Trade (TCST).
A bridge providing access to some vocational training remains in place. The admission requirements are as follows: to hold a Training Certificate for a Semiskilled Trade, to be at least 16 years of age and to have successfully completed the Secondary II courses in language of instruction, second language and mathematics. The programs leading to a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) that are accessible through this provisional bridge are listed in the document Services and Programs of Study - Vocational Training for the current school year.
