The Ontario Ministry of Education's policy framework for First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Education says that each school board in Ontario is to have an Indigenous Education Advisory Committee (IEAC). The document outlines that IEACs should include representation from First Nations, community members, and local indigenous service delivery organizations.
All parents/guardians/caregivers of Indigenous students are invited to participate in the A.M.D.S.B. Indigenous Education Advisory Council.
IEAC aims to strengthen partnerships between the school board and Indigenous communities and parents, ensuring that Indigenous perspectives are included in educational planning and decision-making. This advisory council brings together Indigenous community members, educators, students, and families to collaboratively guide and support Indigenous education initiatives.
The expected outcome is a more culturally responsive and inclusive education system that better serves Indigenous students’ needs.
