How can I tell what glass can be recycled?
How can I tell what glass can be recycled?
identify the properties of different materials by understanding their structure and composition.
understand how the properties of different materials affect their recyclability.
I can describe the properties of different materials in terms of their particle arrangement
I can outline how the properties of different materials affect their recyclability
I have designed a piece of science communication to raise awareness around the importance of correct glass recycling.
Knowledge & understanding
Worksheet on Google Classrooms: Visy Glass - Physical and Chemical Properties of Glass
Literacy & research
Investigate why certain glass can't be recycled.
Knowledge and understanding
Glass is an extremely important and versatile material. While we might think all glass is the same, there are, in fact, many different types of glass made in different ways with different properties to make them suitable for different purposes.
How Glass is Recycled
Literacy & research
In your groups, assign one person to each of the different glass types to research why different types of glass can’t be recycled using the method Visy used in the video. Use the resources below and any other information you come across to find the description and properties of the different types of glasses, focusing on their melting point, what materials they are made with and if there is anything added to the material.
