This week we continue on our adventure of using the bow. Continue to start practice every day with 5 minutes of your bow hold exercises. This is very important to get comfortable with your bow hold and to make sure you use a good bow hold EVERY TIME you pick it up. Before playing every piece of music, always check your bow hold first.
Once you've done your bow exercises, you may continue into your String Basics book to work on this week's lesson assignment. Watch the video below, where Mr. Williams will explain how to change rhythms with your bow and how to change strings.
On page 16 of your String Basics book, we will start incorporating half notes into your bow, which will require you to change the speed of your bow stroke. On #74 & 75, we also have to change what string we are playing on. If you recall, we do that by changing our elbow position. Mr. Williams will show you how to practice carefully to hit the correct string every time, using a practice technique called Eyes Open, Eyes Closed.
EOEC is a warm-up exercise to work on using proper technique while playing your instrument. First, do the technique with your eyes open, to make sure everything is working correctly. Second, repeat the exercise again, with your eyes closed, to make sure your muscles are performing the technique correctly. Use your ears to check, and fix any mistakes through feel, rather than with your eyes.
