Presentations
Throughout the school year, the Westlake counseling team gives presentations in the classroom to students and in the evenings to parents and students. Presentations will be posted below as they occur.
SENIOR MEETINGS: Applying to College
August 22 and 23, counselors visited senior English classes to discuss the college application process, including a demonstration of how to request transcripts and teacher letters of recommendation. The presentation to the right includes step-by-step slides for Naviance (starting on slide 41). Brief demonstration videos can be found on this page as well.
JUNIOR GUIDANCE and PARENT NIGHT
In early December, counselors visited with Juniors and their parents to review how to read their PSAT score report, starting the college search process and how to navigate Naviance to help them search for potential careers, majors and colleges.
Junior Presentation: Introduction to the College Application Process
Counselors will meet with juniors and their parents in April to introduce the college application process.
SOPHOMORE GUIDANCE
Counselors visited with sophomores through their Science classes in November to introduce them to Naviance. Students completed the Career Cluster Finder and started building a high school resumé.
Sophomore Conferences
Counselors will meet with sophomores in March to review transcripts, GPA, PSAT scores, and how to begin the college research process.
FRESHMAN GUIDANCE
In September, counselors visit Geography classes to share information about various resources available to help students be successful.
