Online Correspondence Courses

Correspondence courses are self-paced and online.  The course will consist of a set number of lessons and a final exam.  Final exams are proctored online.

Eanes ISD policy limits students to no more than two credits earned through correspondence.  Courses can be completed through Texas Tech University or the University of Texas high school programs (click buttons below for links).  With the exception of AP subjects, courses are taught at the minimum skill level required.  A grade of 70 or better is required for credit; grades earned in correspondence courses are not calculated in the GPA at Westlake (this includes AP courses taken online).

If you take a correspondence course in an EOC-tested subject (i.e. US History), you are still responsible for taking the STAAR EOC exam.

Other correspondence course providers must be approved by the lead counselor prior to enrollment.

Please note that Eanes offers Government, Economics, Health, and PE for acceleration through in-person summer school.

Credit-By-Exam (CBE)

CBEs are a short-cut for earning credit ~ you take the final exam, and that is your grade for the course.  You might consider taking a CBE if you think you have strong existing knowledge in a subject.  For example, if you failed Algebra 1 because you never turned in homework but understand the subject, taking a CBE is an efficient way to earn back that credit.  As with correspondence courses, you can take CBEs through Texas Tech University or the University of Texas (click the buttons below for links).  Exams are proctored online.

If you are taking a CBE with prior instruction (to recover a credit you previously lost), you will need to score a 70 or above.  If you are taking a CBE for acceleration (meaning you have never taken the course), you will need to score an 90 or above (effective August 19, 2020). It is rare for students to take CBE for acceleration.

The CBE credit must be earned prior to the start of the school year in which the student would normally take that course. (Example: if you plan to take a Geometry CBE over the summer so that you can take Algebra 2 at Westlake, the scores showing mastery must be in the counseling office before the first day of school or you will be in Geometry at Westlake.)
