ASVAB

Senate Bill 1843 (2017) requires Texas public high schools to offer the ASVAB to students in grades 10-12 annually. The ASVAB is a test created by the Department of Defense that assesses a person's aptitudes and interests, linking these to possible careers in military and civilian sectors.

    • The ASVAB is required for anyone interested in enlisting in the military. If a student is considering a military career, taking the exam at Westlake is convenient.

    • For anyone else, this voluntary test can provide insight to possible career pathways. See the sub-tests here.

Westlake will offer the student ASVAB exam once each year; sign up will be announced and scores will only be reported to the military at the request of the parent/student. The exam is three hours long and consists of eight sub-sections; the career exploration program is part of the student ASVAB and the interest inventory is completed as part of the post-test interpretation session.
