TMUA (Test of Mathematics for University Admissions)
This is a relatively new admissions test and the best starting point to introduce yourself to admissions tests. The questions are easier compared to MAT and STEP. These tests are designed to test your understanding of the A-level curriculum and logical thinking in Maths.
You can find more information on the TMUA here. Also summarised below:
Two 75 minute papers.
Both papers are completed online.
Each paper has 20 multiple choice questions.
Completed online and no calculators allowed.
Content coverage is mainly Y12 Maths. You can find the syllabus here.
We may not have covered all of the content (especially in Integration). Please speak with your teacher if you need any additional guidance.
Key Dates
Test dates:
Sitting 1: 13th, 14th October 2025;
Sitting 2 for non-Cambridge applicants: 8th January, 9th January 2026.
Registration opens on 31st July 2025 for October testing and 24th October 2025 for January testing.
Preparation
The TMUA requires you know more about the logic behind proofs that goes beyond the A-level specification. To help you with this, the UATUK has produced this document. Please ask your teacher if you want any of this explained to you!
You can find the past TMUA papers here. It is still worth looking at questions from other admissions tests (see pages for MAT and STEP) even if you are only doing the TMUA. All admissions tests aim to assess your ability to reason using mathematical arguments, so the more exposure you have, the better you will become.
Make sure you have completed the practice test here to familiarise yourself with the online format.
You should begin preparation in the summer holidays, if not earlier.
The AMSP also runs online sessions to help students prepare for TMUA and other admissions tests. Please see this link for more information.
