Warning Signs (11.12.2019)
Paper mache with acrylic paint
40.6x78.7x67.3 cm
-----------------------------------
Inspired by Marie Talalaeff’s work, Serge, I wanted to create a three-dimensional sculpture that emphasized an anti-poaching message with the use of articles and images. I used acrylic to give the elephant its natural gray color, and red acrylic to depict bloody gashes and illustrate its missing tusks. I painted drooping eyes on the animal to display sadness for they had lost their life due to poaching.
Tiger Lily (12.09.2019)
Fake flowers petals on canvas
50.8x40.6 cm
-----------------------------------
After being inspired by Bridget Beth Collins’s artworks, I used fake flower petals to create the head of a tiger on canvas with reference to a photo by Pattana Nirangkul on Shutterstock. Tigers are endangered as a result of poaching. I intended to use flower petals to portray an image of a tiger to show their vulnerability against the major factor that is causing their decimating population.
The Mighty Lion (2.24.2020)
Acrylic Painting on mini canvases
22.9x22.9 cm
-----------------------------------
Inspired by Henri Rousseau's painting, Jungle with Lion. The idea of this artwork was to communicate that lions are endangered due to habitat loss. Using acrylic, I painted the image on 9 mini canvases to distinctly show a lion in lush jungle with skies transforming from dark to light—night to day. Thus, symbolizing a new day for the lion where it can live peacefully in their natural habitat without human interference.
Home Wheat Home (4.12.2020)
Acrylic paint and spaghetti noodles on canvas
34.3x22.9 cm
-----------------------------------
I painted the Black Crowned Crane to illustrate their threatened status due to habitat loss caused by agriculture. I painted dark, gray skies to depict an impending doom for the bird as wheat crops begin to sprout in the field signaling the start of chaos. The feathers on its head that are made of uncooked spaghetti noodles displays how the animal is becoming more distant from the natural world.
