This piece was structured after numerous Andy Warhol prints, particularly pieces such as Marilyn Diptych and Liz. I wished to emulate the concepts of marketing real people to the point that they are dehumanized as Andy Warhol consistently portrayed. I chose Hedy Lamarr as the figure for this piece as her story was delve far beyond her celebrity given her escape from Nazi Austria, her scientific advancements towards WiFi and her dive into plastic surgery (which was extremely dangerous and unknown at the time). This first piece uses dark grey to portray her most recognizable front, cinema. The lines in this piece are rather clean as if this piece was an image of her; this was created to establish how well known this aspect of her life was.
Similar to the previous work on this slide, this work was based on Andy Warhol’s art pieces and utilizes an image of Hedy Lamarr. This piece used blue ink rather than grey ink to represent Lamarr’s more scientific achievements relating to WiFi. In addition to this, the blue ink resembles the ink on blueprints which she had sold to the American military during WWII.
This was one of my first experiences with painting, so this work was essentially a semi-copy of a number of paintings by Claude Monet titled Impression, Sunrise. This particular painting was chosen as I enjoyed the style in which impressionist art was created. The water was created with various shades of green, blue, red a white that were able to form an overall image of flowing water in the end. The cranes and construction in the background were created with colors that were created through blending rather than putting multiple colors together until they created one shape (like the water). The sky was created with far less detail than the water as the water was the focus point of this copy. Taking after Monet’s painting, this portrays a similar message regarding the damage industrialization has on beauty given the complexity of the water compared to the straight-forwardness of the sky and background.
