The majority of my artwork revolves around nature, using mixed media and highly saturated colors to signify it's variety and beauty. I have a great deal of passion for nature and the Earth, and I believe that a lot of people (including myself) often take it for granted. My goal is to remind people of nature's importance and beauty through my art, giving people a new appreciation for the amazing things in the world.
When looking at all of my artwork together, there are a lot of different connections and similarities, but I would say that my usage of color is the main thing that links them all. I never really thought about the way I use color while actually using it, but I have come to realize that in almost everything I make that the colors are very bright and diverse. I always use different colors for everything in one piece, which makes them all stand boldly against the background and highlights the subject(s). I also tend to use somewhat geometric or patterned backgrounds on a lot of different pieces, which adds to the contrast.
I chose to incoorporate nature into my artwork for a lot of reasons. I am very passionate about animals, and some of my pieces center around the endangerment of some species and their habitats. There is a lot of things that humans could be doing to prevent the furhter endangerment of these species, and also a lot of things that humans should simply stop doing that harms the environment, so by creating these pieces I hope to inspire people to care more about plants, animals, and their habitats. I hope to do this by portraying them in a beautiful and colorful way, allowing viewers to admire the subject in a different way.
For this project I painted an abrstracted cornrow snake. This snake is, in my opinion, one of the sweetest animals ever. I believe snakes are pretty misunderstood, seen as predators, so I chose to originally was going to leave the background completely plain and just paint the snake, but I thought it ended up looking pretty empty so I added in the designs on the background with watercolor brush pens.
