Varsity Captain
Being on the golf team has played a major role in shaping who I am because it taught me discipline, patience, and confidence both on and off the course. For the past two years, I have served as team captain, which challenged me to become a stronger leader and set a positive example for my teammates. Golf is a sport that requires focus and mental toughness, and I learned how to stay calm under pressure, manage mistakes, and stay consistent even when things weren’t going my way. As captain, I helped motivate my team, encouraged younger players, and worked to build a supportive team environment where everyone could improve. This experience strengthened my leadership skills, responsibility, and ability to stay determined through challenges, and it has helped prepare me for future goals by teaching me how to lead with maturity and integrity.
Our golf team had an amazing season, highlighted by placing second in our area tournament, which earned us a spot at State. This accomplishment was meaningful because it reflected all of the hard work and preparation we put in throughout the year, both individually and as a team. Competing at a high level taught me how important consistency and mental focus are in golf, especially under pressure. Making it to State was a major milestone for our program, and it showed me what can happen when a team stays disciplined, supports each other, and competes with confidence. This season we are hoping to make it back to state and win this time!
I also had the opportunity to serve as a media correspondent for the 2025 FedEx Cup through the East Lake Foundation, which gave me an inside look at professional sports media. During this experience, I attended press conferences with PGA TOUR players like Harris English and Scottie Scheffler, observed PGA TOUR leadership speak about the future of the organization, and learned how interviews and media coverage are produced behind the scenes. I was even able to ask Scottie Scheffler a question and take away valuable advice about preparation and competing with confidence. This experience connected directly to skills I learned in film class, such as camera work, audio quality, and creating strong coverage, and it helped confirm my interest in sports marketing and media as a future career path.
