Entry Event:

On Monday March 18, we came back from the weekend only to discover that all of our snacks were missing! We needed to problem solve ways to get our snack. The students came up with the idea of working to make money to buy more snacks.

What can we do?

The students decided to worked together to clean up the school playground.

Coach Tan saves the day!

Coach Tan paid each of the students two nickles for helping clean up our school.

Adele felt that it was a serious problem not having snacks. She thought we should create a lemonade stand to earn money.

Kailee felt sad and mad about no snacks. She thought that we could buy more snacks with more money.

Addison was worried about no snacks. She came up with the idea of cleaning up for money.

Althea felt angry! She asked Mr. Weems to get the class some snacks.

Why do people work?

The students answered the question why do people work and drew illustrations. Several students mentioned that people work to earn money, buy food, to get out of the house, and to be helpful in the community.

Currency Design Contest

Althea was our currency design contest winner! She won $100 dollars in Weems' Bucks.

Research/Design/Share

Each students researched the variety of currency around the world.

Then they were given a currency to design.

After designing their currency the students shared with their peers.

The students voted for the currency of their choice. The Banker at Weems' Bank & Trust put the money in circulation.

We need an Algea eater to clean the fish tank in our class!

We were in need of new headphones for our class ipads.

What will we sell in our community?

We discussed what is a community and what are some jobs in a community? The students created and designed their own community. Each student was given a community menu and a budget to design their dream community. The students shared their unique community and the jobs people did inside of their community. Then the students begin to think of the different business and jobs we would have in Weemsville. Will we sell goods or do a service for the people who visited our community?
