Ms. Romo and Ms. Cortanza's Class

PBL Driving Question: Why do people work?

No Snack Day!

Entry Event: At snack time on one peculiar day in March, students realized that we had no snack in our snack bin and all of the other classes were having this same problem! We brainstormed ways to solve this problem and the kindergartners realized that we will have to work to earn money to buy snack. Luckily, Ms. Cartwright had work for us to complete in her office and we were able to earn money to buy snack from Mrs. Chang.

Ms. Cartwright allowed students to move boxes and organize paper in her office.

Ms. Cartwright gives her "staff" instructions.

Destiny is working hard as the class listens for our next assignment.

She looks through her coins so she will be able to pay us.

Pay day!

Owen is thrilled to receive his payment!

We counted our money as soon as we came back to class.

Thank you Ms. Chang for letting us buy snack from you with our hard earned coins.

Entry Event Reflection Work Samples

John felt surprised.

Cataleya was shocked.

Jackson was sad.

Jobs in our community

Students realized that people work to be able to earn money and buy things that they need or want. They had many examples of jobs that people can have.

Saving and Spending Money

Now that students understood that we have to work to earn money, we discussed things that we wanted to purchase for our classroom.

Students also brainstormed personal items that they wanted to save money to purchase.

What should our class buy?

Destiny wants to save for dolls.

Kieran wants to save for college.

Grey wants to save for a robot.

We would like to buy goods for our class but we do not have any money...we need a business so we can earn money!

Zion designed water bottles for our Bedazzled business.

Kennedi also wants to sell our bedazzled water bottles for 50 cents.

Colin plans what our pencils will look like once we start designing our products.

Zoie designed what she thinks our snack bags should look like.

Madeline thinks we should sell our snack bags for 30 cents.

Owen has big design plans for our bedazzled pencils.

Estelle thinks that our notebooks should cost 25 cents.

Romo Investor Letter

Calling All Investors!

Now that we have our business plan and have sketched our product designs, we need investors to support our small business. What better investors than our community members and parents???

Our business is getting off the ground!

We studied examples of common advertisements and slogans so we could advertise what we are selling to our partner classroom. We invited them to Come Sparkle with us!

We made drafts of of our advertisements and we chose the winning one to produce digitally using CANVA.

Next, we started designing our products so we would be ready to sell our goods!

Come Sparkle with us!

Wade is showcasing his advertisement skills.

Safiya is displaying our products beautifully!

Fulani's advertisement captures all of our products.

1st sample Above: Robyn labels each product and provides the prices for the bedazzled items.

2nd sample above: Nyla draws our bedazzled items on her advertisement.

Caleb is showcasing his artistic skills to advertise our goods.

We put our math skills in action!

We voted on the final 2 advertisements and tallied our votes. We created a class graph together and analyzed our data.

Take a look at our final version of our advertisement that we gave to students in our partner classroom.

We used CANVA to turn our artwork into a flyer for Mrs. Moore's class since we sold our products to them.

Product Development for Bedazzled

Market Day finally arrived on Friday, May 3rd and we were very excited to welcome our customers from Mrs. Moore's class.

We also had a chance to be consumers and support a small business by purchasing from Mrs. Johnson's pop up shop next door.

So many choices!

Hot dogs! Oh my!

Dolls for sale

Ice cream for sale

Counting our coins so we can pay

We were able to make choices with our money and some of us even saved some of our money.

All in all, our business was very successful and we earned over $20 in dimes and nickels. Our entrepreneurship really paid off!
