-Epic Elements Chemistry Research Part 1-For my Epic Elements Research Pt.1 My Group members were Nikolai George and Keyshawn Evans. My group researched Metalloids, which includes Boron, Silicon, Germanium, Arsenic, Antimony, Tellurium & Astatine. We did research about how each Element was discovered, It's physical and chemical characteristics, it's history and more.
In chemistry, we have been discussing the different types of bonds. These bonds include ionic, covalent, and metallic. Covalent bonding is responsible for the bonding of dyes and paints to papers, fabric, etc. My art above shows the covalent molecule Ethanol. I chose to do this because it is easily recognizable and most people know what it is. My art includes a painting of a beverage bottle with a speech bubble showing the molecule, and it also includes a PSA about the dangers of alcohol on the bottom . I created this by drawing the bottle then painting it. Then i made sure to add my PSA as well as the molecule the art was themed around.
-Research: Calcium Carbonate-
We are doing research on a compound to learn how science and chemistry can be combined with art
-P.B.L. Speaker-
The speaker (Dr. Stanley S. Brown) touched on a bunch of topics such as drug use, suicides, surgeries, the range of patients a singular doctor could treat in a lifetime etc. An example of a conflict that could break out in this field would be marginalized groups getting the treatments they need and he influx in suicides and drug use. Him talking to us was the start of the PBL project. We are learning about issues and how they can lead to wars, conflicts, etc.
