-Epic Elements-
For our grade level PBL project we are teaching about social injustices through animations. In history we are learning about different ancient civilizations. We are making our story be centered around one of these settlements; our character will live and be apart of that civilization. We will then write an epic about our character and their journey in ELA class. In science we are learning about different elements, and one of those elements will be important to our story. In art we will create characters and animate our stories.
-Ancient Civilizations Activity-
In Ms.Cain’s class we got to some what have the experience of what it’s like to build settlements for the ancient civilizations. We got the option to either help mix mud and make bricks or to make TP houses out of bamboo. I participated in making bricks from mud.
A group of students had to mix the mud by stepping on it and adding water. Then the other students scooped the newly mixed mud into rectangular shaped molds. Then we slowly took the square shaped pieces out of the mold.
-Colombian Exchange Project-
In Ms.Cain's history class, we were assigned a hemisphere and assigned to cook a dish with only ingredients from that specific hemisphere. There was also a twist, we were only allowed to bring one ingredient each and we did know exactly who we'd work with until the day of. I was assigned the eastern hemisphere, so everyone in my hemisphere decided we wanted to focus on the country of Asia for whatever we made. My group ended up making stir fried shrimp. The ingredients we used were: Shrimp, Soy Sauce, White Sesame Seeds, and Mirin. All of these are ingredients that come from the eastern hemisphere as well. The challenge of working together in a small amount of time made the activity fun and our dish turned out well.
