-EPIC ELEMENTS ANIMATION VIDEO-
We used art and digital animation to teach about of ancient civilizations and social justice topics. We made our animation mostly through google slides and used mostly the tools given on google slides to give ourself a challenge. Our story was about a princess in Rome who sneaks off to help her brother in battle. This was a PBL project throughout the entire grade. Before we animated we had to write out epics for our characters so that they could have a backstory; this is how we included the ELA aspect. We made sure to use a civilization we learned about in history class as our setting. Then we included an element from the periodic table into our story as well to add the science element. We then went on to animate our story which was the art element.
-RECYCLED TEXTILES PROJECT-
In class we connected art and science to make textile art pieces. We were asked to use recycled materials and make art out the materials. Part of the goal was to make sure it could be connected to covalent bonds as well as it being considered a "textile". For my project I chose to make a sculpture out of mostly recycled paper and byproducts of paper (cardboard, gift bag paper, card-stock, etc.) I used recycled newspaper to make my paper mache clay. I mixed water and the shredded newspaper pieces then put them into a blender to break down the cellulose in the mixture. I then strained out some of the water so I could be left with a thick pulp. I then shaped the pulp in my hands and molded it into various shapes and experimented with the appearance of the possible sculpture. I then decided on mushrooms. I assembled the shapes then waited for them to dry so they could be painted. I used the leftover paper mixture to make a base for the sculpture. I then assembled everything together and painted it.
-MOLECULE ART-
The molecule I chose to do was a methane molecule. Methane can be used for fires, heat, and light. I used repetition to represent the different parts of the molecule that were alike. I also used balance and variety. I used color to represent the different elements inside of the methane molecule as well. I also made sure to pay attention to shape; the most important element of this project. To make the 3D methane model I used a 3D design website called TinkerCad. And then i used a website called Photopea for the additional parts of the project.
-ReArtions-
For our PBL project we were assigned to show a chemical reaction through physical art. The art form I chose to do was ceramics with clay. I made a cup out of clay and then glazed it. The chemical reactions that had taken place were the clay baking as well as the glaze baking. I was proud of how the cup had turned out and I learned so many things through the process.
-Guernica-
Our class had the opportunity to learn about Guernica, an anti-war art-piece made by Picasso. We were assigned to then make out own version of the Guernica piece. We were put into small groups and each group was given a segment to work on. Each group chose a social justice topic to theme their art around. We were told to choose a conflict that could cause a war. My group chose animal poaching as our topic. Every group took several days to prepare, draw and paint their segment of the artwork. The segments would later be put together like puzzle pieces to show a big mural/art-piece.
