--Goals--

My personal mission in life is to; become an educated member of society, a voice for those without one, a part-time author, a philanthropist, and to make a positive impact on the world. I also have personal goals of being fluent in Spanish before I graduate college and improving my 5k running time. My mission statement is to work hard and play hard.

Career Goal:

I am currently exploring my anticipated major, biomedical engineering (BME) at Georgia Tech and Emory University. I am a Project ENGAGES scholar working in Dr. Sung-Jin Park's lab at Emory University under my mentor, Christina Sheng. Project ENGAGES is a program hosted by Georgia Tech designed to give high school students exposure to a real-world laboratory environment.

My overarching goal is to better understand and treat disease. By examining the impact of myokines (a hormone secreted by skeletal muscles during exercise), the hope is to understand metabolic and musculoskeletal diseases. Muscular contractions are the foundations of movement for any species with a neuromuscular system (the brain sends signals to the body for voluntary muscle contraction). Key to understanding and treating many diseases is studying the gene expression changes in response to exercise. Knowing what genes are expressed, when, and why.

I plan to major in Biological Sciences/Biomedical Engineering, earning a dual degree, a B.S. from Brandeis University and a M.A. in biomedical engineering (BME) from Columbia University.

The goal and objectives are near and dear to my heart; it’s personal. I will dedicate my life to making my mom's life (and others like her) a little bit better. My mother's illness and my love of science propelled me towards BME. I discovered an interest in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) early; I view S-T-E-A-M as the five fingers of a hand or fist; they are stronger together than any one finger. I hope to use STEAM's interdisciplinary approach while studying BME at Brandeis University.

*About Me*

Girls day with my mom, my best-friend, and my cousins.
I have wanted a puppy since I was about six years old. This is me Christmas 2017, when I finally got one. His name is Ollie and he is a Yorkshire Terrier-Poodle Mix.
I enjoy doing volunteer work in my community. This is a picture of my father and I that my mother took Christmas 2016. We were at the Neighborhood Cleanup picking up any trash we came across.
