In the 2019-2020 school year, I was a part of Drew's Varsity Girl Cross Country Team (XC) and the Varsity Soccer team. And in the 2020-2021 school year, I also participated in Drew's Varsity Girl Cross Country Team and the Varsity Soccer team.
Healthy You, Healthy Drew is one of the reasons for my sports seasons
As I look back on my high school sports “career,” I see that being a member of a sports team was an extension of what I learned in two of my 9th-grade courses, personal fitness and general health with Coach Harris, and recreational games with Coach Holloway my sophomore year.
To focus on my transition from the junior academy to the senior academy, I opted out of playing extracurricular sports my freshman year.
In my sophomore, I played varsity soccer. We are a small school and our team did not have a deep bench. We often played with just enough players without having any extra players for substitutes. During the “2021-2020,” we were plagued by lots of injuries so in the “2022-2021” season we focused on spending a big chunk of time stretching before each practice and game, and on being properly hydrated.
Playing sports provided me with a different kind of opportunity to develop skills in cooperative teamwork, collaboration, sports integrity/fair play, and leadership. There is no “I’ in the word team. We either win together or lose together, but we always play as a TEAM.
