Hello! My name is Jessyka. I'm a 12th grader that attends Charles R. Drew Charter School. I throughly enjoy swimming, since a child, and I learned how to because of my uncle who was a lifeguard. I also enjoy history, especially anything involved with Greek Mythology, Percy Jackson is my favorite Greek mythology book series. I love going out and trying new food places in different parts of Atlanta/Georgia. I also love walking in the city or in parks, being outside is extremely freeing, especially with my preferred choice of weather. Romance novels and movies, along with action, are my favorite genre to watch and read. As I get older, I hope to travel the world, meet new people, see how much I can change, and what I am capable of doing for the goodness of myself and others.
Family
Family has always been a big part of who I truly am. The relationship with my sisters will always be something I will cherish forever. The way I've seen them grow mentally and physically is something I will love forevermore.
The way we spend time together, the way we bicker, the way we love is so powerful. I will never bring myself to forget them and what they have done for me, my life would be incomplete without them. They fill those gaps in life, they make me whole.
Nature
Nature has been a vile part of me for years on now. The species, the colors, the beauty, its all so fascinating to behold. If I see a flower, or tree, I always take a picture because the beauty of it will always leave me astounded. I remember going through the park and picking up dandelions, blowing them into the wind, and walking along the sidewalk seeing the pretty pink flowers in the tree. I remember seeing roses in the backyard, and even when wilted, they still withheld astounding beauty. Nature is a blessing to see and refreshing to be around.
Summer Family
I attended Odyssey from 6th grade-12th grade. The amount of memories I made, the friends I made, the learning, and the growth that has changed me for the better. I've learned many lessons and so much more theough this journey. Odyssey will forever be a positive moment in my life. I obtained knowledge and gained love, all while being prepared for the future. Odyssey has given me opportunities in showcasing my discoveries through art, science, literature, and community projects. I've grown academically and emotionally with the greatness of this summer program through mentorship and friends. I will forever be grateful for such an experience, and those who made Odyssey like another family.
Food Love
Food is a stem of my life. Seeing food videos, especially baking, is something that calms my soul. Trying new food, seeing cultural food, trying new flavors, all of these aspects excite me. Its ironic, because I find myself to be a picky eater, but seeing all the creativity put into new dishes, the history behind them, it is amazing to see. However, my utmost favorite is taking those pictures of it and going back to those memories. Being able to remember who I was able to share that food memory with, at that time, is something I cherish.
Outings
Going out is one of my favorite things, especially walking in the city. The pretty lights, the trees, the grass, the sun, all of it makes the experience much more better. Walking around new people, going into different places, and seeing things you've never seen before, its something I soak in because of the euphoric feeling. The place could be a museum, a park, or a store, anything that involves seeing new things will always be fascinating. And what always fills me to the brim with excitement is seeing the litte shops with knickknacks, handmade jewelry, clothing, etc. All of the creativity and energy brings warmth within me.
Travel
Traveling is a big goal in my life. I have a list of countries, cities, and in-state areas I wish to see. I love finding videos of places I want to see myself in. Imagining what the experience would be like, and the culture I could see, is extremely thrilling. My favorite place in Georgia that I've been able travel to is Savannah. The food, the history, the culture, the art, and the entire vibe of Savannah was addicting. The shopping areas were my particular favorite. Being in a new area with new perspectives, and new ideas, is a dream of mine.
Art
Art is a masterpiece. Seeing someone else's imagination show up on the canvas, sculpture, or computer, it is ethereal. The way art can be shown through so many ways whether it be singing, dancing, drawing, or painting, its so diverse and that makes it so much better to see. I grew up seeing my sister draw, and seeing her grow into what she is now, seeing the process, and the growth, makes me appreciate the gift and talent. It caused me to venture and look at it even more. Art is in the eye of the beholder. If it means something, represents something, brings awareness, or teaches, its meant to be admired.
