African American Studies:
Learning Journal Entry Week 1:
During the time of being in this class for the following school year, I expect to learn more about the culture and heritage of Africans and African Americans. We've either been taught minimum information about our culture, the sugarcoated versions, the lies, or all of them simultaneously. I want to gain the information that I need to know about not only culture, but also learn about myself as well. The more we gain about our true heritage, the more we can prosper together. That is what I intend to learn in this class.
E-Sports:
Two things I learned about sleep:
E-sports can impact sleep because it can cause you to have too much screen time, if you have too much screen time it can effect your ability to have good sleep at night and your eye sight. To sleep better this weekend I can get off my phone an hour early before bed so my mind and body can be at rest.
When creating this character I wanted it to have a touch of animation. Considering that I watch anime I took inspiration from one (Jujutsu Kaisen) and I thought of creating a sorcerer. I wanted the character to look somewhat intimidating or even evil, but in reality, they are actually the hero of the story/video game. Inspiration was also taken from the video game Mortal Kombat, in that video game there is a consistency of many people with special powers they are able to use, stemming from telekinesis, element manipulation, and teleportation.
This is the beat I created on EarSketch.
Pros and Cons of PC gaming:
Pros:
PC gaming can help you develop better critical thinking skills due to the various missions and adventures you can embark on.
PC gaming can also teach you to accept help from others, as working with teammates can foster trust.
PC gaming can enhance your creativity, allowing you to customize the game to suit your preferences.
Cons:
Excessive screen time can negatively impact your sleep schedule and eyesight.
The stress from playing games can have negative effects on your mental and physical health.
Gaming setups can be expensive to purchase.
What is FPS as it relates to a PC or monitor?:
FPS stands for Frames per second, the number if frames that are being displayed omnthe screen every second. When using PC fps can help because it measures the rate that a video game can be produced and render frames, the higher the fps mumber the smoother the game play and better quality.
Explain how HZ affect FPS.:
Hz is how frequently the monitor will refresh itself. Depending on the amount you have, it can cause a smoother experience and determine the maximum amount of fps that you have available.
E-Sports and Law:
What was one major takeaway from the article? A major takeaway from the article was the amount of toxicity that was allowed in the environment, another is the amount of rules and regulations that were against women. The things the women had to go through, and the fact that nothing was done, its sickening and disgusting.
How do you believe the Activision Blizzard, Inc. gaming studio became toxic for its employees? The sexual harassment, the sexism, discrimination towards skin color, the policies made against pregnant women, and the difference in pay between men and women. The toxicity was so horrific to the point where a female employee took her own life because of what she had to endure.
If you were CEO of Activision Blizzard, Inc. starting today, what are some things that you would do differently? If I were the CEO I would take extreme measures considering the trauma that women had to go through. Everyone would get the promotions/jobs that they rightfully earned with the correct pay; and women would also have their own personal security guard for safety measures. Pregnant women could go on maternity leave for as long as they think they need to while still being paid and multiple security cameras for extra measures.
How to increase your twitch following by (at least) 10%:
Create an eye-catching profile that will intrigue viewers and make them want to watch. The more creative and unique, the more likely people will click to check out your stream.
Be consistent with everything: the games you play, the color scheme of your profile, and the overall style. Consistency helps build recognition and attract a loyal audience.
Play popular games to increase your chances of being discovered. Playing games that the majority of people love gives you a bigger chance to attract viewers who are already interested in those games.
Engage with your audience like they're real people. Speaking naturally and authentically makes the stream feel more entertaining and personal. Avoid talking to them like they're just computers or ignoring them altogether.
Keep your streaming space clean and comfortable. A neat, professional setup creates a calming atmosphere for your viewers. Too much clutter can be distracting and unappealing.
Stick to a streaming schedule. Consistency is key. If you stream at unpredictable times, viewers are less likely to return. A set schedule makes it easier for people to know when to tune in.
Be yourself. People are drawn to authenticity. Your unique personality is what will keep viewers hooked, so don’t try to be someone you're not. Stand out by embracing what makes you different!
Advanced Algebra/Algebra 2
Advanced Algebra (Reflection 1):
What went well last semester ? What could have gone better? Things that went well was the collaboration/group work, that was very helpful. An area that could've improved better is Delta Math.
What ways (videos, notes, writing board, worksheets) did you best learn? I learn better with worksheets and notes, as I am a visual learner.
What are your goals for this semester ? Create a SMART goal. My goal is to expect better than average, to be an overachiever.
What is an activity/project idea you would like to see? An activity I would like to see is creating our own math equations/questions based on a certain unit and creating a worksheet based off those equations.
American Literature:
In American Literature, we wrote a narrative essay. I considered three different topics, each focused on the theme of identity. I chose the topic that asked how something in American history made me feel and how I feel about it now—whether it taught me valuable lessons or was a negative experience. I decided to focus on the Covid-19 pandemic and how it shaped me into who I am today. Sitting at home with nowhere to go but my own mind made me realize things I probably wouldn't have if I hadn't been forced to reflect 24/7. Throughout reading my essay, you will see the good, the bad, and the raw emotions I felt, as well as how I reached the physical and mental state I am in today.
In American Literature, we wrote an argumentative essay about our opinions on AI in society, specifically in school and work environments. We were asked to choose a topic and argue whether or not AI should be a part of those areas. I chose to discuss how AI should be incorporated into the high school learning environment and how it can be done in a healthy way. However, since this is an argumentative essay, I also had to address the opposing point of view—that AI should not be a part of the high school learning environment. In this essay, you will find information and opinions not only from experts but also from my own perspective on AI in these environments.
In our American Literature class, we created an AI notebook that contains the information for our PBL project. This notebook has been used for a variety of assignments in this class, including the argumentative essay. It discusses the opinions on AI from both experts and ourselves. Additionally, it includes vocabulary related to AI to help you better understand the components that make up AI.
"American Like Me" includes a section with about 30 essays, each written by individuals who have influenced the community in terms of race, ethnicity, sexuality, and more. I was assigned the essay of Geena Rocero, a transgender activist and model. Throughout reading her essay, I focused on the components that discussed how she reached where she is today and the trials and tribulations she faced. I then compared her experiences with those of the book's creator, America Ferrera, highlighting how their experiences were similar or different.
In this reflection, we discussed the results of the graded rubric used to evaluate our end-of-semester test. We also talked about the aspects we did well on, based on the rubric and the necessary traits, as well as areas we can improve on as writers in the future. This rubric was used to grade our argumentative essay about AI and whether or not the government should regulate it.
