For our first PBL Project, which explored the theme "My Story Makes Me Epic", we were required to create a superhero. The superhero had to be motivated by one of the 17 UN Sustainable Goals and some relation to a chemical element. For this specific assignment were tasked with creating an origin story for our hero that would give context for our final project — a trailer that we would write and shoot. The unifier, my hero who was motivated by the UN goal "Partnership for the goals,"  has the power to read minds and blast powerful energy out of their hands. An incredibly awkward woman who was afraid of interaction and confrontation was miraculously able to cure her loneliness after getting in a car accident that resulted in the reading of people's minds. She would then go on to use the power to get over her fear of socializing but also to unite other people together. 

By the time we had completed our unit on heroes, we had read the story of Sundiata, Odysseus, and Beowulf. For our final essay regarding the topic, we were asked to answer one of the following questions:

Out of Odysseus, Beowulf, and Sundiata, who is the most heroic? 

Is Sundiata a hero? 

I chose the former and wrote an essay defending Sundiata's various heroic acts throughout his story. I highlight his genuine selflessness,  proving how he exemplifies what I believe to be a hero. For this assignment, we also explored the use of data within academic writing. I conducted a survey based on the opinions of my classmates towards Sundiata.
