Hello, my name is Austin Smith. I am an intern at Residential Enhancements Global/RE-Global, where I am gaining hands-on experience at the RE-Global site located in Tucker, Georgia. Throughout my internship, I am being mentored by Dr. Gamory, who provides guidance and support as I develop professional skills and learn more about the real estate and property management industry. In the office, I support this company by communicating tasks to different team members. Helping file and manage documents as well as help to ensure the cleanliness of the office.
RE-Global is a real estate construction and management company. Therefore, there are many things that the company does for its various projects. Some of the tasks we perform include overseeing and maintaining residential and commercial properties on behalf of property owners. We handle daily operations such as tenant relations, rent collection, property maintenance, and ensuring that buildings comply with local laws and regulations.
For Re-Global, our Main focus is to be able to retain new customers as well as take on new contracts that allow the company to grow. Some of the standards that the company sets for itself are fast and professional communication with customers. This is to ensure projects are able to be completed in a timely fashion.
The project was focused on researching properties in DeKalb County to determine their development potential, with a specific emphasis on zoning requirements, property capabilities, and sewer capacity. The goal was to identify whether each property could support new construction or renovations without running into legal or infrastructure limitations.
This research mattered to the company and the team because accurate information about property capabilities and sewer capacity helps prevent costly delays, design changes, or denied permits. By understanding these factors early, the company could make informed investment and planning decisions, reduce risk, and move forward with projects that were both feasible and compliant with Dekalb regulations
My specific role was to conduct research on individual properties by reviewing zoning codes, utility records, and municipal sewer capacity information that I gathered through contacting and looking through DeKalb resources that where available. I gathered and organized this data, summarized key findings for the team, and helped determine whether properties met the requirements for development.
The project relied primarily on technical research and data analysis methods. I used Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and municipal property databases to analyze parcel boundaries and utility access. I also had to use information given to me by a civil engineer for the necessary water capacity information for properties.
This project is still in its infant stages, and more work needs to be done for the project to get off the ground.

This is my STEM day presentation that I presented to the Elementary School, which helped to inspire the youth and encourage them to take an interest in the STEM pathway with my presentation partner, Lucain Leon. We showed the young minds across Drew Charter School what it is like to have an internship
Reflection
This internship gave me valuable hands-on experience in a professional real estate environment. I learned how real estate management and development decisions are supported by research, data analysis, and regulatory review. Working with my mentor and team helped me improve my communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. The internship also showed me the importance of accuracy and teamwork in completing projects efficiently. Overall, this experience helped prepare me for future academic and career opportunities.
