This is a virtual art gallery which overviews the topics I studied in my time in the Health/Wellness class. We closely developed our knowledge on what wellness is and how to protect and improve it.

After our research into Dada, I have created a collage that I feel represents the Dada movement for me. Dada, in its inception, was created as a form of political and social resistance, commenting on modern ongoings while redefining what the world considers art. For my piece I wanted to highlight the ongoing struggles children face every day, and how simply casting light and attention on these issues can be incredibly influential. I included several images of children from magazines, surrounding them with the background of current issues, such as the bombings in Gaza, the ongoing threat of illnesses, and earthquakes in Turkey. I wanted to highlight how for so many children, innocence is stolen from them at such a young age, as children in another country or situation get to enjoy the right to a life without such traumas.
This commentary seemed the most salient to me, especially around the holiday season, in which there is such a disparity from the children surrounding us and the ones experiencing these conditions.

When Ms. Alembik visited, she presented many examples of phases in her journey of artistic expression. The period of her work that spoke to me most were her Murder Ballads, which depicted scenes of stabbed women in settings that Alembik had drawn without them previously. She wanted to highlight violence against women. In a different work, I observed Alembik’s use of arachnids in the indoor settings she drew. I made the creative decision to include both a spider and a slain woman in my piece, incorporating two standout aspects of her work.
I chose to involve the spider in the furniture of the room, making it the base of the dining table seen in my piece. Alembik stated in her visit that she drew spiders as protectors of space and the surroundings she drew. I included these two subjects to display protection of the victims of domestic violence.
I faced a challenge in drawing the legs of the spider in my piece, making multiple attempts at making each of the eight legs visible in the piece. After a few iterations of my design, I came up with a solution I was satisfied with.
