Artist Statement** 12/12/24
The goal of our project was to explore and celebrate Caribbean cultures through ceramic art. We created functional pieces inspired by the region’s rich traditions and heritage. Also In world history, we studied the Columbian Exchange and its influence on global food culture. I also ended up making overnight banana oats in wh. For my piece, I crafted a coconut-inspired form using techniques such as slab building, pinching, and coiling... Overall, everything went smooth but one issue that arose was bubbles in my clay so I had to make sure I smoothed my clay throughout it out so it wouldn't explode in the kiln.
For my Artist Idol project, I chose Tom Jones as my artist because I was drawn to his connection with the Romanticism style, which often focuses on the beauty and emotion of natural landscapes. His work inspired me to create a landscape photo that captures a sense of distance and calm.. During editing, I remixed it as a “ski paradise” landscape.Â
I used elements like line, color, and space to create a calm, distant mood. The cable lines guide the viewer’s eye, and the cool colors like blue and white give it a cold, wintery feel. I added warm colors like red and yellow for contrast. The simple shapes of the trees and ski lift keep it clean and stylized. I also left a lot of open space to show how big and quiet the scene is, and added shading to the mountains to give it more depth.
