The media is often maligned for spreading fear and negativity, especially during the pandemic. On this page, we share two positive and inspiring news items that fill our hearts with pride.

The Coronavirus brought Jamshedpur based 11 year old Tulasi Kumar's education to a halt. She lacked the resources to buy even a smartphone. She did not give up. Tulasi sold mangoes and aspired to earn enough to buy a device that would help her access online school.

Mumbai-based businessman Ameya Hete had heard of Kumar’s ordeal on a regional news channel. What struck him about this young girl was how she didn’t seek sympathy. Instead, she wanted to use her savings from the sale of mangoes to buy a smartphone for her educational needs.

Hete transferred Rs 1,20,000 to Tulasi's father’s account with which the parents bought her a phone.

“We are proud of you Tulsi for setting an example and not submitting to your reality. ‘Where there is a will, there is always a way',” Hete tweeted.

He also gifted her a smartphone worth Rs 13,000 and a year-long internet connection, to ensure that Kumar can bring her dreams to life.

“Tulsi is a very smart and hardworking student. We are happy if she completes her education with the help we have given. We will continue to help her when she needs it," Hete told the media.

In order to bridge the digital divide among school children, the Jharkhand State police have come up with a Mobile Bank. As per the plans, those having extra smartphones or laptops and are not using them can donate the sets at their local police stations or at Composite Control Room. The moment a person submits his or her device to the police, an entry will be made in the station diary about the owner of the device.

“We assure the donor that the moment he or she submits the device to the police station, he will be freed from all responsibilities related to that particular device. A copy of the station diary, having all details about the device, will also be provided to that person as proof that he has submitted his mobile phone or laptop to the police,” said a police official.

He further said that any mobile phone, laptop, or tab coming to the police station will be sent to the district headquarters and the SPs concerned will hand over the device to a needy student on the recommendation of the principal of his/her school. An undertaking will be taken from the students and their parents to use the device only for online classes.

Sirisha Bandla : India celebrates the woman who flew on Virgin Galactic

We, in India, celebrated Sirisha Bandla's flight to the edge of space on billionaire Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic rocket plane. Ms Bandla is the second woman born in India to go to space after Kalpana Chawla who died when the Columbia Space Shuttle crashed at re-entry in 2003.

The rocket flew high above New Mexico in the US before returning to Earth just an hour after leaving the ground. Sir Richard called the trip the "experience of a lifetime". This #UNITY 22 flight on Sunday 11th July 2021 makes the UK entrepreneur the first of the new space tourism pioneers to try out their own vehicles, beating Amazon's Jeff Bezos and SpaceX's Elon Musk.

Ms Bandla, who developed an early interest in space, works as the vice president of government affairs for Virgin Galactic. Her grandfather shared that "from the beginning, Sirisha was fascinated towards the sky, looking at the sky, space, how to enter space and what is there".

Vice President, Shri Venkaiah Naidu, tweeted that "her achievement will motivate many more young girls in India and abroad to take up challenging careers":

Industrialist Mr Anand Mahindra wrote that "Indian women are not just breaking glass ceilings - they're literally dismantling ALL ceilings on this planet and rocketing into space":

And at DPS Lava, every endeavour is encouraged, every effort is appreciated and every achievement is celebrated. DPS, Lava, in collaboration with Mahattattva, gave an opportunity to the teachers to apply for the Google Certified Educator Level 1 to hone their technical knowledge in using Google Tools and implementing it in the Google Classrooms. The teachers who applied for the GCE Level 1 underwent the Google Fundamental Skills training facilitated by the Mahattattva Trainers, Ms Deepti Sawhney, and Ms Reshma Honap.

Ms Sreevidya Nair and Dr Shital Joshi attended 10 hours of training, attempted two 3-hours Mock tests, and finally appeared for the Google Certified Educator Level 1 Exam in July 2021. They cleared the exam and were awarded the certificate for the same.

Success is not a destination but a journey.

मध्यप्रदेश टायगर फाऊंडेशन सोसायटी द्वारा डब्ल्यूडब्ल्यूएफ इंडियाच्या संयोगाने नागपूर येथे दिनांक 11 जुलै 2021 या कलावधीत ‘बाघ सखा टी - शर्ट’ चित्रकला स्पर्धा झाली. यात विशेष उल्लेखनीय पुरस्काराने मला गौरविण्यात करण्यात आले.

डॉ. सदानंद चौधरी यांनी या प्रसंगी कलावंत व निसर्ग यांचे नाते स्पष्ट करून चित्रांच्या सहाय्याने निसर्गाशी जवळीक साधण्यासाठी कळकळीचे आवाहन केले. अध्यक्षीय भाषणातून सुनिल लिमये यांनी विद्यार्थ्यांना वाघ व जंगल यांचे नाते स्पष्ट करून जंगलात प्रत्यक्ष भेट द्यावी व प्रत्येक नागरिकाने वन सुरक्षेबाबतचे कर्तव्य पाळावे याबाबत मार्गदर्शन केले. प्रस्तुत पुरस्कार सोहळा वनविभाग कार्यालय सिव्हील लाइन , नागपूर येथे श्री सुनिल लिमये यांच्या उपस्थित पार पडला.

"प्रत्येक व्यक्तिला जगण्याचा अधिकार असतो, तसाच प्राण्यांनाही आहे. वन्य प्राणी, पशू , पक्षी , जंगल क्षेत्र, नैसर्गिक साधन संपतीचे जतन व सुरक्षा आपण केली पाहिजे. भारतात सुंदर यष्टी असणारे वाघ बघताच जणू भीती निर्माण होते, परंतु त्यावर असणार्‍या मखमली पोषाखाचा अनुभव प्रत्यक्षात बघताच क्षणी येतो. त्यावर असणारी पट्ट्यांची ठेवण पाहिली की, आपणास एक सुखद अनुभव येतो. त्यांचा डोळ्यांचा रंग जणू काही समुद्रातील मोती असल्याचा भास होतो. तसेच त्याच्या रुबाबदार मिश्या त्याची ऐट दाखवतात , जणू माझ्याशिवाय या जंगलाचा राजा कोणी होऊच शकत नाही आणि तोच जंगलाचा म्हणून शोभतो यात कोणतेही दुमत नाही. अश्या या अलौकिक सौंदर्याचे आपण रक्षण करावे असे मला वाटते. "
