Star Readers for the month of December

Reading not only increases the knowledge of a child it also makes him expressive for the outside world. Keeping this in mind, at DPS Lava, students are encouraged to inculcate reading habits. The student who reads the maximum number of books in a month is declared as the Star Reader of the Month. Identifying the star reader of the month, aims to motivate children to read as many books as they can within the stipulated time....and it works!

The Reading Programme has become the hallmark of DPS Lava. The programme keeps students motivated and enables them to practice and improve their reading skills anytime, anywhere!

Level Up! Contains a collection of books that students can complete to automatically advance to the next Learning A-Z Reading Level. Students automatically Level Up! Once they listen and read all the books, and pass the comprehension quiz with a score of 80% or higher. To increase the level of reading a student has to complete 50 to 60 books at each level. More and more children are discovering the joy of reading!

THE SECRET SEVEN ADVENTURE by ENID BLYTON

The Secret Seven is a fictional group of child detectives created by famous writer Enid Blyton.Enid Mary Blyton was an English children's writer, whose books have been worldwide bestsellers since the 1930s, selling more than 600 million copies. Her books were illustrated by George Brook. The Secret Seven series is famous all over the world. Let me share a little about the book that I read.

Playing a game of Red Indians in little thicket, beside a huge mansion called Milton Manor – Colin, one of the children, climbs a tree hiding from the other six, and while waiting to be found by his friends, he sees a man on the wall of the huge mansion, and not long afterwards that man is climbing up the tree Colin is hiding in. Colin was scared to death. What in the world was going on? The Seven Children soon found out about a stolen pearl necklace. Could the man hiding in the tree have something to do with the theft? Now the case was becoming intriguing.

The Seven investigate secretly and discover unusual clues. A cap, funny marks, thread in the earth near the wall. Will they find the thief with the help of these strange clues?

If you want to know who that man was and who stole the necklace, do read this book.

THE PROMISE - by DAMON GALGUT

“The Promise" by Damon Galgut won the Booker Prize this year. Damon Galgut is a South African national who lives in Cape Town. He is an author of repute and has written 9 books. He has been shortlisted twice for two books for the Booker Prize for his books “The Good Doctor’ and ‘The Stranger in the Room”.

' The Promise' is a masterpiece that talks about a family in crisis. Damon Galgut is touted as “ one of the world’s great writers” by Edmund White and

“The bold, fresh voice of South African fiction” by the Observer.

It is a taut and menacing novel that charts the crash and burn of an African family, the Swarts. The book is punctuated into four parts, each bringing the family together. The characterisation is razor-sharp, the dialogues dramatic, the action gripping. As the readers transverse the decades, the author interweaves the story of a disappointed nation from apartheid to Jacob Zuma.

The story is about the unfulfilled but promising life but repeatedly broken promises of a white family to black household help. The language shows an intimate knowledge of the family and is matched by an authoritative understanding of the South African complex history.

The book unleashes a searing portrait of a damaged family and a troubled country in need of healing.
