Global Sustainability Awards 2021
Delhi Public School Lava, Nagpur was declared SDG SUPERHERO in the final category of the top four schools in the Global Sustainability Awards 2021 supported by ARC Edtech, Earth Day Network and SDG Chaupal. The award ceremony was held in Gurugram, Haryana on 10th December 2021. The aim of the award was to recognise the work done by schools towards a sustainable planet. DPS Lava was awarded for its work in different segments like Green Eco-friendly Campus, Community Work, Social Responsibility, Collaborative Work, SDG Integrated Curriculum and Lesson Plans.
Around 150 schools participated in the competition for recognition of their work. Participating schools from four continents, nine countries, 22 states from India vied for the awards.
The awards were in different categories like Emerging Champions, State Champions, International Champions, Rural Champions, Socially Responsible Schools, Excellence in SDG, and Best Sustainability Award.
The assessment was completed in two rounds and the jury comprised of eminent personalities from the field of National and International SDG Expertise.
ProVice Chairman Mr Gautam Rajgarhia, Director Mr Siddharth Rajgharia, Principal Mrs Anupama Sagdeo congratulated the teachers and the students for the implementation of the SDGs and for becoming socially responsible global citizens.
The students of Grades VIII, IX and X, interacted with Padmashree Dr Dhananjay Sagdeo on the 13th December 2021. Dr Sagdeo is the recipient of the Padmashree in medicine for the year 2021. He was awarded the Padmashree for his selfless service to the Adivasis through the Swami Vivekanand Medical Mission for the last 43 years in Wayanad, Kerala. While interacting with the students he motivated them to give back to society and serve the underprivileged sections of society.
Dr Sagdeo left an indelible mark on the minds of the students - service to society.
He was very candid when he shared that all roadblocks that he encountered in his mission, got transformed into his strength and became his anchor for attaining the vision of equanimity in the universe.
A strong believer in humanity he encouraged the student community to come out of their comfort zone and work selflessly for the betterment of society.
The programme was conducted by Grade IX students -Sahasra Bonthu, Jigyasa Rahangdale, Arshiya Kayarkar, and Tejaswi Chauhan. Principal Mrs Anupama Sagdeo, welcomed Dr Sagdeo with a token of appreciation. Dr Sagdeo’s wife, Mrs Sujata Sagdeo and his daughter Mrs Aditi Shahpurkar also graced the session.
DPS LAVA NAGPUR STUDENTS GEAR UP FOR
RISEUP4SDG E-WASTE
Delhi Public School, Lava, Nagpur aims to hone its students' community skills and help them become global citizens. Working on this mission the school takes part in many National as well as International summits as well as projects. Riseup4 E-waste is a collaborative project involving almost 100 National and International schools.
India is the third-largest producer of e-waste - electronic garbage. In order to take action for E-waste disposal and management, an 8-week project has been started by Kamla Nehru Public School, Jalandhar, Punjab, India. The project is the brainchild of Ms Paramjeet Kaur Dhillon, a recipient of the National Teachers Award 2019, The Global Teachers Award finalist 2020 and Eminent Global SDG Ambassador.
Students from the participating countries are assigned work to be completed within a given time frame. From 1st December-15th December 2021, the students have to upload their opinion videos on Flipgrid as well as post Minecraft designs expressing their concerns about e-waste, the harm they do to the environment as well as human health. Some of them will post their selfies with damaged electronic waste while a few will paint, draw or write an article about the e-waste pollution on Wakelet and tweet about the same as well.
Our students, Aanya Lakhotia, Anaya Arora, Sarah Khumushi, Janhavi Pawar, Sanvi Mishra and Shruti Sharma were excited and geared up for the project.
Being part of Riseup4 E-Waste is a platform wherein students work on decreasing the load of toxic E-Waste from the planet so that we can lead a sustainable life. Shruti Sharma of Grade VIII and Aanya Lakhotia and Ananya Arora of Grade VII took up the assigned work with utmost dedication and proved their mettle. Their work was appreciated by all team members and facilitators of Riseup4 E-Waste.
Janhavi Pawar and Sarah Khumushi from Grade VIII worked actively in the Riseup4 for e-waste project. They teamed up on Minecraft to design a world of their own with their voiceover. They talked about the E-waste generated by us that creates toxicity in water bodies. They also talked about cobalt mining in Congo and the dangers of Lithium batteries. The two students shared their creative Minecraft world on Flipgrid.
The School Principal Mrs Anupama Sagdeo motivated the students to continue to work on similar projects.

‘The Professional Development Cell’ began in January 2021, and Educators geared themselves up in the new year to update skills & techniques for professional advancement and personal growth. Their learning percolates to their classroom teaching and provides an engaging experience to all their students.
The Management of DPS Varanasi, Nashik and Lava Nagpur promote continuous training and education. Training modules and sessions are conducted every month. Each person has their own Training History Card so that one can keep track of one's training and credits gained throughout the year.
The Educators pick & choose from the different training sessions to enrich themselves professionally and sharpen the axe.
