HOW TO CHECK OUT A KIT

Step 1: What Kits are Available?

There is a list of available kits under the Available Kits tab on this website.

You can also contact Classroom Library at 720.423.1841 or ETLSClassroomLibrary@dpsk12.org to find out what's available for check out.

Step 2: Reserving Kits

Contact Classroom Library at 720.423.1841 or ETLSClassroomLibrary@dpsk12.org and let them know what kit(s) you're interested in, when you need them, and whether you want to stop by Acoma Campus to pick them up or have them delivered to you.

Step 3: Getting Your Kits

Option 1: Pick up the kits from Library Services - Acoma Campus

Please contact Classroom Library to let us know when you're coming. We want to make sure someone is available to help you when you arrive. Our normal business hours are Monday through Friday 7:00am to 4:00pm. We are located at 1617 S. Acoma St. Denver, CO (see map below).

Please remember: We are NOT located at the Emily Griffith Campus! We are at the Acoma Campus on South Acoma Street.

Option 2: Have your kits delivered to your school

Can't make it to us to pick up your kit? No problem. When you reserve your kit(s), let us know you need it delivered.

Kits are delivered to your school's library (if there is no library, they're delivered to the front office) within three school days of being checked out to you.

Step 4: Use the Kit(s)

Many of our kits have books or other materials included to compliment and give ideas on using the kits. There are also links to lesson plans and other ideas on the individual kit pages.

Step 5: Returning your Kit

Near the end of the 30 day check out period, we will send you a reminder email (to your DPS email address) about returning the kit(s). If you need the kit(s) longer, please contact the Classroom Library to let them know. If there is no one else waiting for the kits, they can be renewed for another 30 days.

Please make every effort to ensure the kit comes back to Library Services complete. Use the inventory sheet included in each kit to see if everything is there (this is a great job for students to help with at the end of class!). If you find any missing or damaged pieces, please let us know so we can repair or replace them. We appreciate the hard work of making sure all the pieces are returned to us. If makerspace kits have missing or damaged pieces, it can make it difficult for the next class to use it.

Put the kit(s) in the library (or office if there is no library). Contact Classroom Library at ETLSClassroomLibrary@dpsk12.org or 720-423-1841 when the kit is ready to be picked up.

Who can check out a kit?

Makerspace kits can be checked out to any library staff or teacher.

How long is the checkout time?

Checkout time is 30 days. This allows for delivery and return time.

Will you send the kit to me using inter-school mail like you do with the book baskets? Can I send a kit back to you through inter-school mail?

No. Due to the size, cost, and fragile nature of the kits, we ask people to either return the kit(s) in person or request delivery/pick up by our driver. Please see "Step 3 - Getting Your Kits" in the "How to Check Out a Kit" section above for details on how to do this. You can also email Classroom Library at ETLSClassroomLibrary@dpsk12.org for details.

I can't manage to get to Acoma Campus. Is there anything else you can do so I can check out or drop off a kit?

Yes! Please contact Classroom Library at ETLSClassroomLibrary@dpsk12.org or 720-423-1841 to find out how you can get a kit delivered or picked up!

How sturdy are the kits?

Most of the items are pretty sturdy, but they can still be broken or damaged. Please do not expose the items in this kit to extreme temperatures (don’t leave it in your car, in a sunny window, etc.), immerse anything in water, or get them dirty.
