The Macarthur Nature Photography Competition is an opportunity provided each year by Camden Council, Campbelltown Council and Wollondilly Council to help highlight the beauty of our region by asking the community to get out and about and capture our beautiful local environment.
This year we congratulate Reese Davies in year 9 who was awarded a Highly Commended in the Australian Plants category of the Macarthur Nature Photography Competition with a great shot taken at Mount Annan Botanical Gardens. Works are currently on display at Narellan Town Centre.
On the 15th June, a very early, frosty Wednesday morning, the Year 9 and 10 Visual Art classes headed to Campbelltown Station. We were about to embark on an artistic adventure, making our way into the city to view a range of current Art exhibitions.
Arriving at Circular Quay, First we completed a Photo challenge, enabling us to absorb the magnificent soundings of the Sydney Harbour. We then visited the MCA, which is the contemporary art space located on Circular Quay. In this museum we were split into 3 smaller groups to view, discuss and interpret the interesting Art of today. These works were quite unique and contemporary in their conceptual message and material practice.
After a brief lunch on the Quay we headed to AGNSW (Art Gallery of NSW) to tour the traditional gallery spaces. Our viewing of the Archibald exposed the group to a wide selection of Portraiture paintings, depicting people of note within society. This exhibition concluded our day, where we made our way to St James Station to travel home. All who attended thoroughly enjoyed the experience as they viewed new types of art and were exposed to both traditional and contemporary forms of art making.

On Thursday, the 31st of March, the Stage 6 Visual Arts students embarked upon an exciting expedition to the Museum of Contemporary Art and Art Gallery of NSW. First visiting the Art Gallery of NSW, we viewed the showcase of astounding work from last year’s high achieving Visual Art HSC student submissions. This exciting exhibition included artworks produced by HSC students and a sampling of their own Visual Arts Process Diaries. Making our way through the gallery, student's viewed a collection of traditional and contemporary spaces, igniting the creativity of all. The innate artistic capacity of everyone was sparked. Like osmosi, we were surrounded by captivating art and in the company of our surrounding creative audiences and inspiring art formations we conceptually grew as artists.
In the afternoon, the group headed by train over to the Circular Quay. Here we viewed a variety of contemporary works on display in both a gallery context and in a public arena. Our visit to the MCA began with a welcome to country, where we viewed a powerful contemporary piece by artist Vincent Namatjira. This semi-autobiographical and political work by Vincent Namatjira’s is an assertion of identity, sovereignty, pride and resilience, vibrantly located in the Circular Quay Foyer Wall.
