In this unit, The Human Form, students learnt about the significance of the human body as a genre within Visual Arts. They developed their skills in drawing the human figure in a variety of different media such as; lead pencil, charcaol, chalk pastel and wax. These skills in developing the human form were then developed into ideas to create various sculptural forms based on the figure. The students developed process drawings and, for the construction of their work, they selected materials such as plaster casting, clay, papier mache, wire, hebal block and found objects to create 3D sculptures representing the human form.
Swiss sculptor, Alberto Giacometti was one of the most important sculptural artists of the 20th century. Renowned for his slim, elongated human figures, Giacometti depicted the human form in such a way as to capture a palpable sense of spatial distance. Students have applied his style iconic to construct these figures.
The process photographs below are of Year 10 students working on their various sculptural forms that are inspired by the artmaking practice of Alberto Giacometti.
In these works students re-created Henry Moore's iconic semi-abstract sculptural forms representing the figure. This English artist is renowned for his monumental bronze sculptures which are located around the world as public works of art.
