The Yr 12 students are currently working of developing their Body of Work. They have started their larger panels and once sections are at completed state we will upload images. Please watch this space in the coming Term to see what they have achieved to date.
My work consists of several, large scale graphite pencil drawings that explore the contrasting analyses of the biblical figure of Mary Magdalene throughout history, and the poignant effect these interpretations have had on contemporary notions of misogyny.
Magdalene’s image has been interpreted and deconstructed throughout history. From the contemporary perspectives of Magdalene as a highly empowered feminist figure, to her portrayal as sacreligiously provocative, her role in shaping contemporary understandings of womanhood and associated misogyny remains uncontested. The work explores the various interpretations of Magdalene throughout history, and the feelings of distress, suffering and restriction derived from the interpretations of Magdalene’s image.
