Sanctioned Digital Devices

Year 7-8 iPads and Year 9-12 BYODD Macbooks

Greater responsibility and awareness comes with students being administrators of their own device. If it is brought to the attention of the College, or there is reasonable suspicion, that a student’s personal content and software is illegal, inappropriate for a Catholic College or could be used to contravene the ‘College’s Acceptable Use Policy’ then the College has the right to confiscate the device and take appropriate action to minimise the harm to others.

Teachers have the right to confiscate a student’s personal digital device for the entire lesson if the student fails to abide by teacher instructions. All confiscations will be recorded and if a pattern of inappropriate use emerges than further action will be taken by the College to rectify the student’s wrongdoings.

Student Responsibilities

  1. My digital device will be updated with the latest software and will be kept in good working order.
  2. My digital device will not be used on the playground at any time unless my teacher has directed me to do so.
  3. I will not access or edit files or alter any settings on a digital device that does not belong to me.
  4. I will not bypass or subvert any College systems that have been set up to offer services to me as a user of a digital device.
  5. I will not remove any management software the College has instructed me to install, to ensure the smooth deployment of updates and applications to my digital device
  6. I understand that there will be limited IT support to solve my BYODD device problems. The College will ensure:

- I have access to College network services

- I am notified of any updates that need to be installed.

- I am made aware of all relevant information regarding the usage and maintenance of my device

- I am made aware of the 'Acceptable Use' policy regarding the use of my digital device.

Parental Support

The College relies on the support of parents to assist their son/daughter to abide by the conditions of use of their digital devices. It important that parents help their children maintain a balance in their lives and place limits on their screen time. It is also crucial that parents have ongoing discussions about what is acceptable, appropriate and wise when using their digital devices.
