Device Characteristics

Macbooks

In 2023 all students in years 9 - 12 must acquire an Apple Macbook for their Studies. The College will not be purchasing Macbooks on behalf students. Students can acquire any type of Macbook for their device , however older devices may not be able to run the latest software updates.

The College recommends you acquire a Macbook that is:

  • relatively new (2021 or newer is preferable)

  • has a solid state drive (SSD) with a capacity of at least 256 GB

  • has at least 8 GB of RAM.

These devices are expensive, however it is important to choose a Macbook that will be compatible with software updates that Apple releases in 2023 onwards. The College will supply all necessary software and assist students in device configuration. This includes personal accounts for Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office and Google For Education.

Devices can be acquired from any retailer. The College purchases its devices through EDUComm. They also provide a parent portal at https://www.educomit.com.au/product-category/hscb/, password 'BYOD2018'

Students can transition to a Macbook in year 8 if their iPad is damaged and is not worth repairing. A ‘Transition to a Macbook’ form can be downloaded from the Forms section on the College website.

iPads

Year 7 students in 2023 will need to acquire an iPad for their studies. It is recommended that your child has an iPad made after 2019. It should also have at least 32 Gig of memory.

It is crucial that your child's iPad is new enough to accept all updates released by Apple during 2022-2023

Accessories like an Apple Pencil or a separate keyboard are extremely useful and welcomed but NOT mandatory.

The iPad will be used as your child's school digital device for Year 7 and year 8.

Students will need to download apps from time to time so it is important that they possess their own personal Apple ID. Parents can manage their child's Apple ID account. Parents usually do this by knowing their child's Apple ID password. Alternatively, if mum and/or dad have Apple devices the feature Family Sharing can be setup
