2023 Program

The College's iPad Program in 2023 will involve year 7 and 8 students. Year 9 to 12 students who will be required to have access to a Macbook Laptop. Year 9-10 students will need to acquire a BYODD Macbook. Although not ideal, Year 8 students can transition to a Macbook if this suits their family situation. Students will need to see their Year Coordinator to start this process.

To assist parents in supporting their son/daughter in their education at Holy Spirit College, we provide the following guidelines:

    • Students are required to bring their device to school each day, fully charged and ready for use.

    • It is preferable that the device is designated solely for the student’s use. It will become problematic if the device used by the student is the same device used by the family and is not available for the student to complete homework or bring to school.

For families wishing to purchase an iPad or Macbook :

    • The College recommends purchasing a recent model, given it will be the student's device for many years

    • iPads should have at least 32 Gig and Macbooks 256 Gig of solid state storage.

    • Devices with cellular phone capability are NOT necessary for the educational environment.

    • Students must have a backup solution allowing them to reliably recover any school-based document or file that has been damaged or corrupted. Details on the College's preferred backup methods are in the 'Setup' section of this website.

    • Students will require their own Apple ID. If students are younger than 13 the Apple ID should be set up by parents in the name of the student so credit card details are not required. Details on how to do this are included in this website in the 'Setup' Section

    • Parents are responsible for ensuring BYODD devices are labeled or engraved with their son/daughter's name.

    • All digital devices must be transported by students in protective bags or covers.

    • Digital textbooks will be made available to students in a number of subjects.

    • All Apps required by your son/daughter will be supplied by the College. This includes accounts for Adobe Creative Cloud, Google Workspace for Education and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

BYODD devices are the responsibility of students and parents.

There is number a of Macbook setup procedures that need to be completed by students before commencing the 2023 school year. Students will be made aware of these procedures via Google Classroom before the end of the 2022 school year.

Any breakages, repairs or maintenance are the responsibility of the students and parents, regardless of whether or not they occur on school grounds or on school business.

We recommend families have in place insurance for the digital device which covers the iPad being lost, stolen or damaged while it is outside of the family home.

The school does not carry insurance for:

    • the repair, maintenance or replacement of devices belonging to third parties

    • any third party device being lost or stolen on school grounds or on school business

    • any third party device damaged or lost whilst commuting.

Proper Use

    • students will be given access to the College's wireless network, their College Google for Education, Microsoft and Adobe Accounts and any other required apps. The students will be involved in device setup lessons in the first days of school in 2023. The proper use of the device is currently governed by the following:

    • Learning Technologies Acceptable Use Policy. (Diary)

    • Sanctioned and unsanctioned digital device policy. ( Diary)

    • Confiscation of Student Property.

    • The College reserves the right to amend these policies and/or introduce new policies from time to time.

Damaged Devices

In the event that a student’s BYOD digital device is damaged and is being repaired by a third party, the College will have spare devices available for loan from the IT Support. The maximum loan period will be 3 weeks.

Repairs to BYODD student devices can be coordinated through The College's IT Support Team in the Resource Centre.
