Lesson 2: At the Pharmacy

Prior Knowledge

Students may need some prior knowledge of spelling, grammar and additional vocabulary. This unit has been designed so that students with no prior knowledge can develop their listening skills.

Learning Intentions

In this lesson you will:

  • role play different situations and

  • communicate effectively with others.

Task 1: Watch and listen to the video.

You are on holiday in Florida with your family and you need to visit the pharmacy. You are looking for your prescription and medication for bug bites but you also purchase another item.

Listen to the dialogue.

Task 2: Role-play

Role-play the conversation below with someone in your class.

Swap roles and repeat.

Conversation:

Pharmacist: Hi, how may I help you?

Customer: Hi there, I’d like to pick up a prescription.

Pharmacist: Alright, give me the doctors note.

Customer: Here it is.

Pharmacist: Alright, one moment please.

Customer: Also, there’s something else I wanted.

Pharmacist: Alright, what do you need?

Customer: Do you have any anti-itch medication?

Pharmacist: What kind of itch is it?

Customer: It’s itches due to bug bites.

Pharmacist: OK, There’s some down the third aisle.

Customer: Alright what does it look like?

Pharmacist: Well, there are many brands, some can be used for more than bug bites.

Customer: Cool, thank you.

Pharmacist: I’ll have your prescription drugs ready shortly.
