Donegal ETB policy covering all aspects of your assessments has been UPDATED. Click the link for a handy summary of this policy.
Donegal ETB provides a wide range of technology in our centres and courses to help students with their learning.
We want to make learning easier and more interesting by using digital tools like computers, apps, and online resources. We also help students build digital skills — like how to use technology safely, responsibly, and confidently.
This is part of being a good digital citizen, which means using technology smartly and respectfully.
Donegal ETB has set up Digital Hubs in many of our Further Education and Training (FET) centres. These are special spaces where students and staff can go to learn and get support using technology.
The hubs are designed to help everyone, especially if you don’t have internet or devices at home. You can come in and use the computers, internet, printers, and other tools to help with your schoolwork.
You can also book a space in the hub to get help from a staff member. This could be:
Getting online to do research or homework
Learning how to use your email
Printing an assignment
Each centre has a support tutor available during certain hours to help you with anything you need.
To find out more or to book a spot, check out the flyer at your local centre.
Donegal ETB has a Device Loan Scheme to help students with their studies. If you need a laptop, Chromebook, or Surface Go (depending on your course), you can borrow one.
Each device comes with the right software to help you:
Do research for assignments
Work on your own learning
Join online classes if your course includes remote learning
You’ll also get access to your student email, so you can stay connected and get support.
When you start studying with Donegal ETB, you’ll get your own student email account.
You can use this email to:
Safely and securely contact your teacher
Access useful apps and software
Store your school files online for free
It’s a great way to stay organised and get support with your learning.
Using the internet and mobile devices can be really helpful for learning and staying connected. But they can also come with risks.
To keep yourself safe:
Be careful with your personal information
Think before you click or share
Use strong passwords
Only talk to people you know and trust
Always practice good online safety habits to protect yourself.
Donegal ETB offers software and tools to help students with learning. If you have a disability or need extra support, there are special technologies available for you.
Here are some examples:
Immersive Reader: This tool helps students with dyslexia by reading text out loud. It’s available on laptops and PCs.
C-Pens: These are smart pens that read printed text and speak it out loud. They’re great for students who have trouble reading, especially in exams or study time.
Screen-reading software: This helps students with visual impairments by reading what’s on the screen.
Depending on your needs, different supports are available in our centres. If you’re not sure what’s right for you, talk to your teacher or coordinator — they’re here to help.
All of our FET centres are equipped with the most current broadband and have Wi-Fi access available for students.
Donegal ETB has a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy. This means you’ll be allowed to use your own laptop, tablet, or other device during your course if you prefer.
If you don’t have a device, don’t worry — we also have a Device Loan Scheme where you can borrow one. You can learn more about that on this page.
