At Donegal ETB, we are committed to ensuring all students have equal access to education. Our Disability Service provides assistance, guidance, and reasonable accommodations to help students with disabilities or learning difficulties reach their full potential.
Confidential Support & Guidance – one-to-one meetings to discuss your needs
Needs Assessment – to identify appropriate supports
Reasonable Accommodations – e.g., extra time in exams, assistive technology, or reader/scribe
Assistive Technology – training and access to specialised software and devices
Liaison with Tutors – ensuring teaching staff are aware of your learning supports (with your consent)

Inform Us – let us know about your disability or learning difficulty when you apply, or at any time during your course.
Provide Documentation – medical/psychological report or an educational needs assessment.
Meet with Student Support Staff – we’ll arrange a needs assessment meeting to discuss supports.
Agree on a Support Plan – together we’ll outline accommodations tailored to you.
Ongoing Review – supports are reviewed regularly to ensure they meet your needs.

Supports are arranged individually - no two students’ plans are the same
You are encouraged to apply early to allow time to put accommodations in place
Disability Support is a free service in Further Education and Training (FET) that helps students with disabilities, specific learning difficulties, or health conditions to access and succeed in their chosen course.
You can use the service if you have:
A physical disability
A sensory disability, such as hearing or vision
A mental health condition
A specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, or Dyscalculia
A neurodevelopmental condition, such as Autism or ADHD
A significant ongoing health condition
If you are not sure whether you qualify for support, you can contact the Student Support Service for advice.
Supports are tailored to your needs. Examples include:
Extra time in exams/assessments
Reader or scribe support
Use of a Reader Pen
Use of assistive technology (e.g., screen reader, text-to-speech)
Alternative formats (large print, digital copies)

No. All information you give is treated confidentially. Supports are arranged in a way that respects your privacy. Only the staff who need to know will be informed.
No. Supports are there to make sure you have a fair chance to show your knowledge and skills. They do not change what you are expected to learn – they just remove barriers to your learning.
